BLOCK PRINTING
Block printing is one of my favourite techniques, if not my absolute favourite. It's basically infinitely customisable rubber stamps for adult artists. The point is that after designing the graphics, I carve them into the linoleum (rubbery kind of plastic) pads by hand with a special lino cutting knife. When I finished carving the "stamp", I spread paint on the carved surface and carefully place it on the fabric resulting in leaving a mirrored copy of the design on the surface. I repeat this painting-placing method over and over again in different placements or colours on the fabric until I'm satisfied with the final piece.
individually handcrafted designs
Not only I draw the designs, I carve all of them individually by hand. Here you can see a real-time snippet of the process of carving. It's kind of a risky business since if I make a tiny mistake, the carved out piece can't be out back in place. Even though it might sound frustrating, carving can be really meditative for me, I enjoy every minute of doing it.
